FIRST SAP

Yesterday the sun shone all day, the sap was flowing and it was T-shirt weather. Gerry and Jackie dropped by to make sure we were good to go and see if we had any last minute questions. We so appreciate their help.

Mary collected about 50 litres of sap and we got the fire started and the pan on.

Mary skimming the sap.

This is our backyard setup, very basic but works great. It actually sits just beside the driveway as you pull up to the house. Leanne, Sherri and Owen are here for a few days and it is wonderful to have their help as we do our first batch of maple syrup.

Owen was much more interested in the tool shed than the maple syrup.

Here we are keeping an eye on the fire and enjoying some time together.

We boiled sap until 9 pm then took it off and will finish it this morning. We started with 50 litres and I would guess it's down to 15 litres. Patients is the key word when doing maple syrup in the driveway.

Thanks for stopping by and safe travels everyone.
