Passed Inspection

Our building inspector was here before 8 yesterday morning, looked over our construction to date and signed off that all was good and we could proceed.  So now it is full steam ahead and he won't be back until final inspection.

Gary, Collen and Shawn worked on the electrical installation. It took a while for Gary to figure out my convoluted way of wiring the pot lights but eventually he untangled the mess and proceeded to do the hookups to maximize the number of outlets and switches on each line.

It's a happy crew, steady workers who take their time and are particular about their work. Gary and Collen are working the lines across the ceiling by our front door;not sure why all the smiles.

Shawn's job was making the connections inside the boxes while ...................................

 ...............  Collen measures twice and checks with Gary in the attic before cutting the wire.

Can you see all the wiring dangling down from the ceiling? This weekend I need to put up some plywood so there is a solid surface for the guys to install the electrical panel on.

Margaret, Andrew and Valery arrived in the morning and were soon busy helping us prepare the walls and get everything ready for the drywall.  Here Valery and Mary chip away at the durisol block to make it smooth for the drywall to be fastened to.

Doesn't that look good? Our first sheets of drywall are up in the master bedroom thanks to Andrew and Ben.

Andrew very carefully cuts holes in the drywall and pulls the wiring through. All these little jobs need to get done before Mary muds the walls and then gets them painted. We are making good progress thanks to so many helpers.

Today the plumber will be here so at this point I'm not sure if we will be working inside or outside.

Check back tomorrow to see what happened.

  1. Dang Art, when do you sleep? I see this post was made at 2:28 a.m. One question, did you need to do anything to the outside walls to keep the concrete blocks from sweating? That may not be a problem in Canada, but is a big problem in AL. We had a concrete block house on the lake one time and this was a big problem for us. Everything looks awesome. I can't believe you have all of these people helping you. Mary is doing a great job mudding. It is amazing how much you are doing yourselves. Will check in later.

  2. Hi Connie;

    Good to hear from you. The blocks are insulated with roxul R23 on the inside portion of the block and then we sprayed 2 inches of spray foam on the outside of the block to give us another R20 so a total insulation value of over R40. This will keep the blocks from sweating and also keep us warm in the winter.
    Yes, we appreciate all our helpers. They make it possible for us to get so much more done in a week. Hope to be sleeping in the house by September 15th
    Time for breakfast, then off to the lumberyard and then over to Ben's house.
    Have a great day and always good to hear from you.
