GENERATOR

Today's job was to change the oil and filter in the generator.

Our generator runs on propane which means I don't have to worry about it running out of fuel. The white tank in the background holds more than I will use in any season. Presently we have to fill the tank every ten months but with a few changes we hope to get a full year out of one tank of propane.

First we turned the generator to off and took out the fuse. This ensures do accidental start-ups when we are changing the oil.

Draining the old oil is very easy; simply remove the plug in the drain line and let gravity do the rest.

I changed the oil filter as well but since I was busy with both hands no pictures.

The job took about 20 minutes and only needs to be done every 500 hours or two years whichever comes first. As this was our first year of use I thought it better to change the oil now. I'll probably change it every fall even though we don't run the generator much more than 100 hours a year.

Thanks for stopping by and safe travels everyone.
