One of the most spectacular drives here is up Apache Trail to Tortilla Flats.
Yesterday Mike, Sheri and Smoky took us for a drive up to Tortilla Flats. This route was Arizona's first historic trail.
View from Apache Trail looking at Canyon Lake, formed when the Salt River was dammed for electrical production.
Tortilla Flats was the staging area for the road construction through this valley back in the early 1900's. President Roosevelt drove this route in 1911 to officially open Roosevelt Dam, built of bricks and 300 feet high. Today, Tortilla Flats relies on tourists and the colourful history of many of it's former residents.
The cliffs of Superstition Mountain behind our trailer .....................
........ a great spot for a late afternoon hike.
Saguaro cactus are found throughout Arizona.
Today we head west to Quartzsite. Thanks for stopping by.
