HE GOT IN

When you raise chickens in the bush it's a constant battle between you and the critters looking for an easy lunch. We've had laying hens in our coop for four years and never had a predator get in until this week.

When I went down to get the eggs Tuesday morning the yellow doors in the picture above were wide open. You could see mud streaks on the door so some animal had stood there working the latch until it opened.

Five birds were still in the coop, the sixth was just feathers leading into the bush.

So now we have more barbwire and a second latch on the door.

We installed plaster lath around the bottom of both coops (Marvin's advice) and extra latches on all doors.

I think we've solved the problem as we haven't had any more intruders since then.

How's your coffee Mike?

Thanks for stopping by and safe travels everyone.
