  1. I just watched and it was very good. Your whole setup is so well done! I've always wanted to go off grid. The only problem is it gets very hot here in Alabama in July and August and we have to have air conditioning. And Ice. Can't live without ice in our tea year round, lol. We also heat with wood as much as we can in winter and it's one of the best things we've ever added to our home. Looking forward to reading more of your blog!

    1. Yes, we don't need AC as we seldom have days that hot. Alabama is a different story.

    1. Fruit trees are wonderful the deer and raccoons love them. We have apple and pear trees and do our best to keep the critters away; not always successful. Glad you guys enjoy the outdoors and growing your own vegetables. It's a great life.

  7. Hello Art & Mary!

I happened to see your video on youtube and love what you have done to set up your homestead. I am in search of land now and will be doing the same and will refer back to your Blog! Do you have any experience with Honda Ranger or Polaris Pioneer for moving snow?

  13. Hi,

I've been thinking about moving and starting an off grid life. But being alone I have my reservations.
I'm saving as much as I can at my current job. I am 32, and plan to move to a new place in a year.
You have any advise for me?

    Love from India.

    1. Best advice would be to keep researching and finding what works best for you. Technology keeps changing and systems keep improving so see what is currrent for your situation. All the best.

  14. I just watched your video on YouTube and had to come see your blog. My husband and I have been planning for the last 6yrs to move from the city to the country. We're currently building a strawbale house and plan to use as much eco friendly additions as we can. Gardening is my goal, providing us and others with food. Your journey is inspiring!

  16. Hi Art and Mary, thank you for allowing yourselves and your off grid home to be filmed. My husband and I live off grid in NZ, and we love it. Like you I enjoy sewing. It's very rewarding creating beautiful things for your home, and enjoying the space and views that being out of the city provides! Unlike you, we have to plant trees, as our property was just grassy paddocks on a windy hill. We are enjoying watching them grow, and provide us with wind-shelter. I hope to see more of you both on youtube sometime.
