Yesterday was a perfect day for a hike to our back pond.
Although it's been below freezing for months our stream is still flowing. I think I need to build a bridge next summer and make it easier to get across.
Once across it's an easy hike to the pond
Penny will dash ahead and do her own exploring then wait patiently for us to catch up.
Can you tell she loves winter?
Up near the pond we discovered this bear claw marking; a sign they use to mark their territory
By the time we reached the pond Penny was already digging for treasures
This wall of trees was as far as we got, so we took a break and enjoyed the scenery before heading home
Once we turn for home Penny likes to steal our poles and have us chase her. She knows I'm too old and slow to catch her but she enjoys the game
Time to enjoy the fire and think about ordering seeds for our gardens
Stay safe and well everyone and thanks for stopping by
Yea! Seeds for gardens!! Our magnolia is starting to bloom already so I need to get some plants started. I left the basil plants in the garden to go to seed because the bees and birds were LOVING them. I went out to check if there were any seeds left to harvest and found the stems stripped bare. I'm glad they could serve as a food source in the lean months ❤

Hello, and greetings from Ventura County, California! My wife and I came across the video of your house on Youtube and love your house and lifestyle. We are in our mid-30's and hope to have a house like yours someday. Thank you for the blog and updates and enjoy (as I'm sure you are).
ReplyDeleteThanks to you both for the kind words and so glad you enjoyed the video Jonathan. Our seeds will arrive this week Julia.
ReplyDeletewhat an inspiration! We're just younger than you and will begin our off-grid adventure as soon as it warms up this spring.
ReplyDeleteAll the best GC. We wish we had done this so much earlier.
