ST. AUGUSTINE
Last week Tony, whom we met in Arizona ten years ago, drove over for a visit. He lives just west of St Augustine and it was great to see him. We had a lot of catching up to do.
St Augustine is the oldest city in North America and we decided to do lunch and a walking tour. (Thanks Tony)
The streets are narrow and traffic is limited but the restaurants and shops are plentiful.
Next was a tour of the fort, first built out of wood. After it had been destroyed three times in battle it was decided to build with stone; it's still standing.
Inside there was plenty to see, hear and participate in.
Thanks Tony for looking after us so supurbly.
Today Mary and I walked the beach this morning. We usually walk as far as this pier about an hour walk along the beach.
By the time we get home, Mary usually has a pocket full of shells, some for the grandkids, some for her own collection.
It's been a wonderful holiday, the last few days especially relaxing now that we know Sherri doesn't need another operation. It will soon be time to head north and cold temperatures once again.
Looking forward to seeing everyone soon.
