DELICIOUS HOMEMADE ICE-CREAM

When we were kids no-one had air-conditioning, and the way to stay cool was to head for the basement or eat ice-cream. Of course hanging out at the town pool was also a good alternative and we always got a summer pass to the pool as soon as school was over.

But ice-cream was a treat and my Dad would often load us into the car after supper and head over to the local Dairy Queen. Back then we could order their largest cone, dipped in delicious chocolate for 25 cents. That cone would last all the way home.

We did not worry about the sugar content, or what was added, we just savored every lick. I can still taste the chocolate.

Today our bodies tell us to go easy on the sugar, and a hundred other ingredients we find in our food.

But this recipe is both delicious and healthy; you will love it.

We start with 6 ingredients: cocoa powder, vanilla, maple syrup, frozen cherries, one frozen banana, and a tablespoon of almond butter.

We find it best to set out the frozen banana for about 15 minutes to let it start to thaw. It seems to blend into the mix much easier.

Add the liquid then the dry ingredients first, followed by the frozen cherries and one banana.

Blend until everything is smooth but not runny. You may have to stop the blender and push the ingredients down into the still blades once or twice.

Once the ingredients have reached the consistency you like, scoop the ice-cream into a bowl, take it down to your favourite shady spot, sit back and enjoy.

The only question you will have, "How could something this healthy, taste so good?"

Enjoy and let me know what you think.

  1. Thank you. I'm definitely going to make it but first off to the health food store to but organic fruit. You didn't give amounts of everything.
