Image Problems

I'm having problems with images posted on my blog page. Original images are posting just fine but after a few days the image is replaced with a black rectangle with a white triangle and an exclamation mark inside the white triangle.

Other bloggers are having the problem but no one seems to have an answer for it.

If you know of a solution please let me know.

After some thought I'm wondering if I'm not the cause of the problem. I upload my blog pictures from  my "Picassa Web Albums" I have so many albums that I started to delete some of these albums just to give me memory space. I'm wondering if this is the reason for the loss of images in older blog posts?

Looking Back

Bancroft is celebrating their 150th anniversary. This weekend they had a fabulous display of life back when Bancroft was just a mud hole on the York River.

Back then logs were hewn by hand and pulled out of the bush by horses. To square the timber, which was then made into rafts and floated down to Montreal,  he used a broad axe and cut down to a line drawn on the log.  Once loaded on a ship it was taken to England to be used to build their sailing ships. There was a lot of waste left on the forest floor from lumbering back then. Today even the sawdust is used.

Many people dressed in period costumes.

Remember there were no chain saws 150 years ago. If you wanted a tree cut down you used a two man saw and kept it sharp. These two boys cut through this timber in less than a minute.

Lazy Days

With family here, we are into those lazy days of summer. The weather has been perfect; warm, sunny days, cool evenings, very few bugs. Sitting on the dock, reflecting on life and what we have done together has been most enjoyable and therapeutic. What fond memories we share.

It was a great day to sit by the water after our trip to Maynooth.

We Love Company

It's always great to have family and friends drop by. Yesterday Mary's sister Connie and her husband Andrew visited and the first then we did was put them to work. We still have brush and trees to clear before we start to build on the 22, so off we all went for a day of hard labour.

Andrew had a great time driving the "bobcat".

Careful with that chain, we don't want it to snap.

The forecast for the next three days is rain, so we may just enjoy a good book in the comfort of the cottage.

We Have a Date

Construction starts August 22. Our excavator will come on the 15th to pull stumps, level the area and extend our driveway so all of the building supplies can be delivered safely.

I'm amazed how quickly Steve can get the job done. He can make the excavator move like a dance partner, every movement is ballet.

Some trees we will turn into lumber for trim around the windows and doors, other trees will keep us warm during the winter.

Steve begins to clear the house site. Last year he tested the soil to see how close we are to bedrock.

We've removed more trees since this picture was taken. As Steve pulls out the roots I will use the "bobcat" to move them off site.

As we progress into the building of our off grid passive solar home I will post more pictures and try to answer any questions you may have.

They Left the Property

The "Girls" have been bad. Yesterday Nancy knocked on our door to let us know our "Girls" (chickens) were out on the road. That was like calling 911, and we jumped into action. Off in the truck to find the little culprits and herd them back into their pen.

This was their escape route; down our lane and a quick dash across Stringer Drive. Freedom!

Usually we are around and the "Girls" are always in our company or lap.

Now that we are at the cottage they decided to try and find us.

Thanks to Nancy, we soon had them back in their pen.

Tonight they are safely sleeping in their coup. No more vagabonds, only happy chickens staying close to home. Right girls?

First Visitors

We are "babysitting" a cottage for the month of August. After 9 months in the trailer this is luxury plus. Mary has a full kitchen, we can take a hot shower or bath whenever we please and soak our feet in the lake without driving across town.

Ted and Sharon dropped by to say hi and became our first visitors. They stayed for lunch; turkey and roasted potatoes, which we enjoyed on the deck.

Down at the lake, we had to take off our shoes and test the water temperature. Perfect! Maybe we will go for a swim tonight.

Briar, their friendly bird dog, was curious and had to check out every hiding spot.
