HIBERNATION/ISOLATION

Winter has arrived and we are busy cutting wood and experimenting with fermented foods. We are fine, healthy and active just staying away from people as the Covid-19 numbers continue to  climb here in Ontario

Penny has recovered  from  her operation and  takes us on a daily walk through the bush She loves winter rolling in the snow and  chasing the squirrels  from our bird feeders

Until we have something new to report we are taking a hiatus but will be back in the spring

Stay safe and  well everyone and  lets hope 2021 is  better year for everyone

  2. Thanks for the kind words I'm sure you would love living in the country and so would the kids. We wish we had done it 40 years ago.

  3. I too just found your YouTube video. you are living exactly what I am planning. My full retiremtent should be in a few years, and I saw many things you have are what I have researched and added to my build Wishlist. Thanks so much for sharing. I have good friends in Bancroft area and have considered that as one of my possible locations, If not too bold I would love to pick your brains some time about your process and roadblocks/lessons learned.

  5. Hello from the Australian Bush! I just saw your video on youtube and I believe we are kindred spirits. My hubby and I also live in our own (almost) off grid retirement haven. We are on 25 acres in the sub-tropics. We rely on rain water and have solar power, but we are connected to the grid. We planned to be off grid but that is a project for the future. Your house and garden are gorgeous and it was a treat to be able to take a peak. Thanks for sharing it all. Best wishes, D'vorah.

  7. Glad you are staying safe! Living off the grid is something I have always considered doing - maybe some day I can get my boyfriend on board with it! Such a great way to reduce your impact on the planet. :)

  8. I see you are experimenting with fermented foods. I also see that you bake bread {my vice}. Have you ever tried Wild Yeast Water? While I keep a sourdough starter, I've been almost exclusively been using Wild Yeast Water made with raisins, or golden raisins, apples, crab apples, even clover. All work very will in a sourdough like process but without the sour tang.

  9. I like the idea of Wild Yeast Water and will give it try once we are back to baking bread. Homemade bread was just too delicious and stuck to my hips like glue. Thanks for the tip.
