Fire in the Trailer

Yesterday we said goodbye to our friends at the Gypsy Rally and headed north to Quartzsite. Our first stop was the laundromat since we (Mary) was running short of clean clothes. I think I have enough T-shirts on board to last a month, but Mary needs a laundromat at least every 8 days. Before we had the bags out of the car, our friends from Q, Mike and Tracy pulled up and gave us a hearty welcome. They said don't worry about supper, we are doing jumbolia and salad and there is lots. Great, clean clothes, supper is already being prepared, just need to get propane, fresh water and dump.

Just before four we pulled onto the BLM land here and set-up camp. Brian says we pull down the high standards set by other "Airstreamers" here. Could it be our "drying bush"?

Yes, I know, no clothes on the bushes drying, just use your imagination. This is sort of an interactive blog.

The sun was bright and the day was hot (30*C) so all windows and doors to the trailer were open. Mary was putting away laundry and could smell something burning. She initially thought it must be Mike's jumbolia but Mike's trailer is 40 yards from ours. Then she noticed a small plume of smoke gently rising from the credenza and looking down saw that her leather purse was smoking. That was when she realized a glass paperweight was catching the sun's rays and acting as a magnifying glass. Fortunately there was no serious damage (slight burn mark on Mary purse) and we once again realized you can't be too cautious when travelling.

Supper was delicious (thanks Mike & Tracy) and it was good to see everyone at "happy hour".  Today we head north and east to Apache Junction then on to Roosevelt Dam on Sunday where we will camp with Mike and Sheri.

Our battery is just about dead so I am looking forward to getting to Paul's place on the 20th to have our solar system installed.

Just had to include this sunset from Mittry Lake. Hope you can join us down the road and we can enjoy a few sunsets together.

 Safe travels.

  1. Holy hot stuff, that was pretty funny. Glad nothing more serious happened and you caught it in time. As for the drying rack, it's better than those garden gnomes.
