What happened to Summer?

Well summer is a memory and fall is quickly disappearing and I haven't written a blog page since May. Our plans to build this summer were dashed when the by-law we thought would be changed wasn't. No problem, since we still had loads of trees to cut, and land to clear. By the end of August we were still waiting for the permits which I understand are now being reviewed by a committee and hopefully will be passed before the new year.

In July we took a break from cutting trees and Annie & Marvin came up to attach the "Air-Ride" hitch properly. Marvin's efforts were greatly appreciated and now we can travel safely down the highways.

Soon we will be heading south to Texas where we will meet up with Annie and Marvin and try and stay warm. I will try and do a better job of up-dating our blog page once we are on the road. I think it will become a shared job with Mary doing the writing and I will add a few pictures.

Hope all is well with you and drop us a line when you can.

First Airstream rally

We spent the last couple of weeks touring with like minded people who love their trailer life.

Our first rally was at Dearborn, Michigan where all the RVs had to be at least 25 years old to attend the "Tin Can Tourist" rally. Some units went back to the 1930's.

This trailer came from near London, Ontario and was built in 1936.

There were even some old buses converted to motorhomes.

Then it was on to Penn Wood, Pennsylvania to attend our first Airstream rally. Once again lots of friendly people, too much food and lots of ideas about travelling in the USA.

May in Bancroft

Ok, so Sherri called and said it's time to get blogging again. So here goes.......

Sunday mom and I plan to head north and spend the day in Bancroft. I will post pictures once we return but I understand the BLACK FLIES are out so I may not have much to show. It will be good to return and see the place after our last visit in February.

This will be a busy summer, building the garage and putting up the steel shed so we may not have a lot of time to post. Also we have no internet connection where we are in Bancroft so will need to go into town to up-date this site. I'll try to keep you posted at least once a week and more if time permits.

Hope to see you up there sometime this summer. We have a lot of trees to cut.

Bancroft April 25-09

Saturday April 25th was just too warm to stay in town. We were ready for a change of scenery and an excuse to head north.

First stop was breakfast at the "Honey-Diner" just north of Peterborough. A perfect place to stop and enjoy a traditional Canadian breakfast of eggs, sausage and toast.

Up in Bancroft our objective was to scout out a place for our new house but we still had time to walk the property and burn a pile of brush Sean had stacked last October.
I think Mary is a bit of a pyromaniac since she always enjoys throwing on more wood and getting the fire to burn as ferociously as possible.
Where should we build?

March Break 09 Myrtle Beach

The second week we went to the South Beach Timeshare at Myrtle Beach. Sherri flew down and joined us for a few days of shopping and relaxing. We had a beautiful two bedroom unit just across the street from the beach. The resort was top notch and we would go back again even though it was 10 minutes from the airport. We didn't hear the planes once inside and the few that flew over while on the beach were not a problem. It is a small airport and it was very handy when Sherri arrived.

March Break 09

These are a few pictures from our stay in Virginia, March 14-21/09

We stayed at this Timeshare just outside of Harrisonburg.

Picture #2, was taken from our deck one evening as the guys used the BBQs to prepare supper.

Although it wasn't real warm, we did enjoy the hikes and exploring the area around the resort. Massanutten is a popular ski & golf resort and is very busy during those seasons. Since we were here during the "shoulder" season the cost was $231 for a two bedroom unit.

In the last picture I'm checking out the information board regarding the Civil War battle at Cross Keys, Virginia, Sunday June 8, 1862
